frequency13 Definitely the most pleasant surprise of the 17 mostly unfamiliar albums I got from the Hiraeth discography purchase. This one epitomizes the term "genre defying". Can't quite figure it out but it's good. Favorite track: Omega.

Luke All sheer surfaces, nowhere to grab hold. Mallsoft contraposes exoteric pleasantness and esoteric anxiety; Dream Emulator is better than most at pushing its anxiety to deeper and more hidden depths, which makes it all the more exhilarating when you find your way to it. Resolves with a lovely track that evokes Music for Airports. Favorite track: Resurrection Chamber (reprise).

put in the name for your bandcamp At first glance, Dream Emulator is easily overlooked. Written off just by its genre alone; what more can be done with such an enclosed genre as Corporate Culture music?

But to say that this isn't one of the most interesting contextualizatuons and combinations of genre would be a disservice to what this album has just underneath the skin. Contemplative string and sharp bells - all synthetic and sterile. Worries about the future and the loss of the past, all paved over in clean white tile. Favorite track: Privilege District.

Hiraeth Records presents “Dream Emulator” – a touching, ethereal masterpiece from the US-based musician Hasbro Slasher. Witness a pristine sound blossom as MIDI choirs and string ensembles push through sweeping, new age ambience, creating a sound that shifts from lovingly real and organic, to thought-provoking and other-worldly.

Hasbro Slasher crafts a distinctive sound, bringing together elements of new age, ambient and electronic. The listener’s path is awe-inspiringly real, but harbours moments of synthetic glossiness and disorientating fragmentation. Find yourself drifting above endless mountain ranges, feeling the crystalline vapour of stratus clouds against your skin. Settle in lucid valleys flowing with the lifeblood of creation, as the artist fondly illustrates an impression of nature’s majesty juxtaposed with our new, digital existence.

The bonus tracks offered on the CD and MiniDisc iterations of the album further explore this unique soundscape. there is no nuclear waste under these slabs of concrete offers a sporadically pulsing texture, smoothed by MIDI piano, with a title that gives more than a nod to the ecological undertones that run through much of Dream Emulator. Swim under fragile panes of ice on 78 78, as the artist submerges you in crisp, glacial water at the album’s conclusion.

Whether its MIDI choirs gliding through the aether with you, or gentle piano ballads that caress as you lay submerged in ambience, Hasbro Slasher entices you into a microcosmic landscape. Each track welcomes paints a beautiful utopian vista. Marvel as geometric structures refine themselves into a detailed landscape and you are guided forward by progressive melodies and masterful composition.

Hasbro Slasher is a musician from Portland, Oregon. Drawing inspiration from video game music, dream pop, nature documentaries, and minimal techno, his music explores combines the uncanny perfections of orchestral VSTs with a desire to musically recreate the feeling of watching clouds form and dissipate above subalpine meadows in the Cascades mountains.

Like the artist’s past work, the airy and ethereal sounds belie darker thematic messages about ecocide and the ever-advancing digitalization in all aspects of modern life, including dreams and the afterlife.
